Superior Court Judge, Pierce County Superior Court
Judge Gretchen Leanderson was appointed by Governor Inslee to the Pierce County Superior Court on November 7, 2014. Judge Leanderson is a 1981 graduate of the University of Washington, with a BA in Business, and a 1987 graduate of Seattle University School of Law. She served 26 years with the Washington State Attorney General’s Office prior to her appointment, including as Chief of the Tacoma Division from 2007-14. Judge Leanderson currently serves as a member of the Seattle University School of Law Alumni Board and is on the Advisory Board for the Robert’s Fund. Judge Leanderson is the immediate past treasurer of the Washington Women Lawyers (WWL) State Board (2012-14); past co-president of Pierce County WWL (2011-12); and past chair of the WSBA Professionalism Committee (2011-12). She is a regular speaker on professionalism and civility, including at Seattle University School of Law.
Judge Leanderson’s civic involvement includes, among others, the Pierce County YWCA, the Crystal Judson Domestic Violence Family Shelter, Lawyers Helping Hungry Children, Safe Streets, the Pediatric Interim Care Center (PICC), and Commencement Bay Rowing Club. Prior to her appointment to the bench, Judge Leanderson also enjoyed volunteering at the Tacoma Pierce County Bar Association’s (TPCBA) Volunteer Legal Services Family Law Clinic and opportunities to provide pro bono legal services to veterans and those currently serving in the military.
